What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathic treatment follows the 'Similia' principle:- 'what a substance can cause in the way of symptoms, it can also cure'. For example coffee is a stimulant preventing sleep. When taken in a highly diluted but 'potentised' homeopathic form, it can be a highly effective remedy for insomnia.
Selection of the appropriate healing course of homeopathic treatment is highly specific, involving careful consideration of:
- Inherited patterns of ill health.
- Previous illness and emotional trauma.
- Constitutional 'make-up', i.e. character traits and general sensitivities e.g. to weather, foods etc.
- Current symptom picture.
Thus there emerges a highly individualized personal 'profile' which indicates the specific course of treatment required.
The efficacy of Homeopathic treatment can be greatly enhanced by dietary modifications and nutritional supplements where indicated.
There is no category of illness in which Homeopathy and/or nutrition cannot be employed, although if there is established irreversible tissue damage (e.g. in long standing osteo-arthritis), then treatment is unlikely to be as effective as when it is given before such a change occurs. In such circumstances, however, it may be an extremely useful adjunct to orthodox treatment, with the likely outcome of a reduced need for more potent drugs.
Most commonly treated conditions include acne, psoriasis, asthma, bronchitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, anxiety/depression, menstrual irregularities, arthritis/rheumatism.
Homeopathy can also be a most effective self-help treatment for a wide range of common disorders, e.g. coughs, earache, tonsillitis, mumps, chickenpox, cystitis, gastro-enteritis, sprains and bruising.
