Kate is a warm and empathic therapist. She was born in the UK and raised in Africa and Hong Kong where she lived until she moved to Edinburgh in May.

She specialises in supporting people with anxiety, stress and trauma. Alongside person-centered counselling skills, she uses EMDR to help clients process traumatic memories and reduce distress. Where useful, she integrates somatic work – chiefly Tension / Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) – and tailors treatment to individual needs.

Kate’s non-judgmental approach helps create a safe space for clients to explore their experiences. She is passionate about helping people not only to feel better after a therapy session, but also to have insights, techniques, and support to feel better in the long term.

Kate’s first career was as a journalist. After completing her Masters in Counselling, she set up in a private practice at a respected medical clinic in Hong Kong and wrote about mental health for the South China Morning Post. She twice won the MIND Media Award (2020, 2021) and in 2024 published a book on the psychological impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health, Pandemic Minds.

Kate offers a free telephone consultation 15-20 mins before arranging the first appointment.

Client testimonials

“I came to see Kate for support with a difficult family situation which had its roots in my childhood. I felt safe and comfortable doing EMDR with her. After just two sessions I already felt a relief and after four I was able to communicate with the family member who I had issues with, and we have been able to move forward. I can’t thank Kate enough – I went from feeling really stuck to being able to see a positive future” – Rebecca

“I work in a high-pressure environment and for years I rely on medication to manage my migraines – in the office and at home. My wife recommended I try TRE. Kate immediately made me feel at ease with clear instructions, expectations, and simple to follow exercises. After I learned how to do TRE, I am doing it by myself at home three times a week. It is four months now I haven’t had a migraine. Without any hesitation, I recommend TRE and Kate” – Philippe

“My psychologist diagnosed me with complex PTSD and referred me to Kate for EMDR. For the first four sessions we did TRE, which I enjoyed and helped me relax, and then we began sessions with EMDR. It was an extraordinary experience. It has helped me understand why I feel anxious and what triggers me. Kate is kind and calm and really listens” – Michelle
