Body Stress Release (BSR)

Body Stress Release (BSR) is a gentle, complementary technique that helps the body release stored tension and works with your body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Every day we're exposed to different types of stress, such as:

Mechanical stress - falls, accidents, poor posture, repetitive strain, prolonged sitting Emotional stress - worry, grief, anxiety, work pressure Chemical stress - pollution, toxins, processed foods, medications

When stress exceeds what your body can naturally adapt to, it becomes "locked" into your physical structure, particularly along the spine where nerves branch out to every part of your body.

This stored tension disrupts communication between your brain and body, and may be the underlying cause of discomfort or symptoms you're experiencing - back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, fibromyalgia, digestive issues such as constipation or cramps, poor sleep, anxiety, stiffness when getting out of bed, dizziness, fidgeting or inability to sit still, and fatigue. Often, the pain you feel isn't where the problem actually is, it's your body signalling that something deeper needs attention.

BSR works with your body to gently release these layers of tension - much like peeling back the layers of an onion. Using light, precise pressure, the technique identifies where stress has accumulated and guides your body to unlock it, allowing your natural healing and recovery processes to resume.

BSR doesn't diagnose or treat medical conditions. Instead, it supports your body's ability to restore balance and function at its full potential.

  • At your first appointment, your practitioner will give you a short introduction to Body Stress Release and take a detailed case history to understand your background, lifestyle, and any areas of concern.

You remain fully clothed throughout the session and will be asked to lie down on a specially designed bed. Using a series of light, precise reflex tests along your spine — and other areas where necessary — your practitioner identifies exactly where body stress is stored. Once these areas are located, gentle but specific pressure is applied to encourage your body to release the stored tension, restoring communication and the body’s natural self-healing abilities.

After the release, your practitioner will share their findings with you, offer advice on posture, and demonstrate simple self-help techniques to support your body’s healing process between sessions.

  • For your comfort, we recommend wearing light clothing. You will be asked to remove any glasses, belts and large necklaces. Shoes are normally kept on during the session, although you are welcome to wear socks if you prefer.

After your session, it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise and give your body time to adjust. Many clients feel relaxed or even tired afterwards — this is a natural part of the body’s healing response.

  • The body responds best to three sessions over a two-week period. This timeframe allows each release to take effect while supporting you through any temporary sensitivity that may occur as stored tension is released.

The number of follow up sessions needed depends on your body’s response and how long the tension has been stored.
